Canada Post is facing a potential labour disruption, which may impact how OMERS delivers incoming and outgoing pension information by mail. Although timing is unknown, the earliest that a labour disruption can occur is early July.
Canada Post and the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) are in the middle of contract negotiations. While we are hopeful that they will come to a negotiated agreement, we must prepare for any possible impact.
For more information about how this will affect you, please click on one of the options below.
OMERS has a plan in place to ensure there is limited impact to business processes. You may access and update personal information and reports through myOMERS.com. As an alternative to regular mail, you may wish to provide us with documentation by:
Fax: 416-369-9704 or 1-877-369-9704
Drop off Or Courier:
One University Avenue
Toronto, ON M5J 2P1
OMERS will not reimburse courier costs if documents are couriered to our office during the postal disruption.
Please note: all OMERS outbound correspondence, forms and communications will be securely retained until the end of a labour disruption. If you would like to pick up any personal documentation or a cheque you will need to bring appropriate identification (photo ID) and sign a Member Document Pickup Form at our main reception on the 16th floor.
If you are a retired member
You are not affected if you currently receive your pension payment by direct deposit. If you receive your pension payment by cheque, you may be impacted.
In order to avoid any delay in receiving your pension payment, we are asking you to switch to direct deposit. Receiving your OMERS pension by direct deposit is a quick, convenient and secure way of receiving your pension. There is no charge for this service.
There are two options to ensure there is no disruption to your monthly pension payment should a Canada Post labour disruption occur.
Option One: OMERS will make the change for you:
1. Complete “Form 108 – Changing Information (retired member/survivor)”. Return to OMERS by mail or by fax before June 25.
Option Two: Self Service through myOMERS.com::
3. Once you are registered in myOMERS, you can switch your payment option from cheque to direct deposit in a few quick steps:
Once you switch to direct deposit, all future pension payments will be automatically deposited into your bank account on the first day of each month.
Please switch to direct deposit by Friday, June 24 to ensure there is no disruption to your August payment.
