Employers must offer membership in the OMERS Plan to employees not required to join the OMERS Plan as a condition of employment. Membership must be offered when the employee first becomes eligible. For more about voluntary membership see Section 6.1.3 of the Employer Administration Manual.
These employees may have previous employment or a part-time job with another OMERS employer which may help them become eligible to enrol in the OMERS Plan – some employees may even already be eligible to enrol when hired.
