Barry Brown (Chair)

Barry Brown was appointed by the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) to the OMERS Sponsors Corporation (SC) Board effective January 1, 2015. In 2022, Mr. Brown was elected as the Chair of the SC Board for a two-year term effective January 1, 2023. As Chair, Mr. Brown also serves on the Plan Design Committee and as ex-officio (non-voting) member on the Corporate Governance Committee, and Audit & Human Resources Committee. Mr. Brown is also a member of the AC/SC Joint Council.

Mr. Brown served as a Co-Chair of the SC Board from 2019 to the end of 2020. Mr. Brown was elected as the Vice-Chair of the SC Board effective January 1, 2021.

Mr. Brown practiced employment and labour law for 30 years, retiring from Hicks Morley in 2014. Throughout his career, he worked with a variety of unions and other employee representatives to find mutually acceptable solutions to challenging workplace issues.

Mr. Brown received his BA and MA from the University of Western Ontario before graduating from its Law School as the School’s Gold Medalist. In 2015 he completed the Board Effectiveness Program for Pension and Other Long-Horizon Investment Institutions at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto. In 2021 he earned his Chartered Director’s designation from the Directors College at McMaster University.
