Karen Figueiredo
Karen Figueiredo was appointed to the OMERS AC Board effective May 19, 2022 on the nomination of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union. She serves as a member of the Governance & Risk Committee, the Human Resources Committee and the Appeals Committee.
Karen has over three decades in the Canadian pension industry as pension actuary, investment consultant, business leader, corporate pension plan sponsor and employee benefits leader. She is currently an independent consultant, focused on helping individuals and families with their financial wellbeing. Karen spent over five years in Sun Life’s corporate HR team, responsible for North American employee retirement and benefits plans and for global governance of their retirement plans. Prior to Sun Life, she had a lengthy career with Willis Towers Watson (WTW) as a retirement and investment consultant. Karen is a respected business leader and expert on all aspects of institutional defined benefit pension plan management including design, financing, administration, investment strategy, asset-liability management, compliance and governance.
Karen has contributed to development of pension policy at the federal and provincial levels, including as past chair of the Actuarial Advisory Committee of Ontario’s pension regulator. She served as an independent member of Health Insurance Reciprocal of Canada’s Finance Committee and is currently a volunteer on the Chartered Professional Accountants of Canada Pension Investment Management Committee, and Vice Chair and member of the Board of Trustees of Royal St. George’s College Foundation.
Karen has a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from the University of Manitoba. She is a Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries and the Society of Actuaries and recently obtained the Advanced Certificate in 3H Financial Planning from the FP Canada Institute ™ . She successfully completed the
ICD-Rotman Directors Education Program and received her ICD.D designation in June 2023.
