Ani Deshmukh Speaks in Singapore on Impact of Today’s Volatile Marketplace on Credit Strategies
Thank you to our valued colleagues at With Intelligence for organizing the just-concluded 2023 Pension Bridge APAC conference on alternative investments in Singapore; as part of the conference, our OCM colleague Ani Deshmukh joined other seasoned investors to exchange views as part of a panel on the theme of “Developing and executing effective credit strategies in today’s volatile marketplace.”
Boiled down, Ani’s main message to the audience was as follows:
“OMERS remains committed to building out its presence in the region, and as a long-term capital provider the Asian credit markets present an attractive opportunity in the performing credit space at the moment. A combination of higher base rates, mid-cycle credit spreads as well as generally constructive corporate balance sheets bode well for the asset class over the next 12-24 months. Tail risks we are closely monitoring include a sharper-than-expected global growth slowdown, inflation picking up beyond current ranges in Asia and geopolitical risks. We seek to partner with top-quartile borrowers as well as like-minded co-investors in underwriting the Asia growth story.”
